Am I late to the party? Are people still doing the mid-year freakout tag? I’m bad with trends, but I still wanted to try it out.
Even though we are halfway through the year, these past six months have felt like a whole year in on itself. You know like an episode of Black Mirror with one self contained story? All the twists and turns of one too. However, as long as it has felt a lot of good conversations are happening, conversations that are long overdue.
So what’s been going on with my reading? Find out down below!

Best Book So Far
I’ve read so many amazing books these past months and it was honestly hard to pick, but reading We Set The Dark on Fire was an adventure. I read it for the Con Sabor Reading Challenge and it was just so special, to get to discuss with other readers brought the experience of reading WSTDOF to life! The romance, the world, the writing, the themes. This book has it all for me!
Best Sequel So Far
I haven’t read any sequels thus far. I have a problem sticking to series because I just get easily distracted by other books out there! Anyway, I so plan to read some sequels for the later half of the year like The Kingdom of Copper and We Unleash The Merciless Storm.
New Release To Read
I discovered The Silence of Bones after reading Lynn’s (SometimesLeelynnReads) review of it and I knew that I had to have it!! I’m not huge on historical fiction, but the premise of this one just got me. I bought it for my birthday, as a gift to myself, but have yet to pick it up. Soon, I promise!
Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of the year
I feel like I can make a whole post just on this one, but here are some I’m excited for: 3 sequels and 3 new series
Biggest Disappointment
I’ve heard great things about Grady Hendrix. Humor and horror sounds like a fun combo. Then after watching him on the horror panel from Social Distance Book Fest I decided to give his newest book a listen. I enjoyed the narrator because I had listened to their work before, but the story was meh. Most of the time I was mad at the main character and her actions. The vampire and the lore behind it was also underwhelming.
Favorite New Author
I recently read Akwaeke Emezi’s Pet last month and completely fell involve with their craftsmanship. The story just blew me away! They are insta-buy author for me now.
Newest Fictional Crush
Don’t really have one!
Newest Favorite Fictional Character
Nahri from The City of Brass. She is such an amazing character, a total badass. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind, be herself, and she’s got some amazing abilities.
Book That Made You Cry
None yet! But Felix Ever After had me feeling sad in some parts.
Book That Made Me Happy
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Lobizona. Reading this book was such a great experience, it had me hooked from start to finish. The world is magical, the characters are fun, and hello? Werewolves. The fact that this book exists and that other Latinx readers will get to experience it makes me so happy. What can I say I’m a sucker for Latinx fantasy, okay? Lobizona comes out on August 4th!!! Preorder or add it to your TBR
Favorite Review You’ve Written
I’ve been trying to get more comfortable with writing reviews. My goal is to have a consistent form for them, but honestly I’ve found that each book calls for a different type of review lol. I can’t write a short review to save my life. One that I’m proud of is my review for We Set The Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia. I loved writing it and I also included a bookmark that I created!
Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought
ASBW is hands down the most beautiful book I’ve bought this year. I love all the little details and that the characters are underwater. It’s truly breathtaking.

We Set the Dark on Fire was so good! I still need to read the sequel but will be picking it up for the Meteor Shower Readathon. Oh no about The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires. I was eyeing that one because I want more horror in my life, but might skip that one after all. This Is How You Lose the Time War is soooo good. I hope you enjoy it.

Yes! It’s one of my ultimate faves now. I think I’m going to do the same because I still haven’t read the sequel, it’s just better to read with friends. Yeah, I’d say that it isn’t worth the time. I’m still in search for a horror that I fall in love with, but it’s been very hit or miss.
I’m hoping to pick up TIHYLTTW soon!!
