Welcome to my first Top 5 Tuesday! This is a weekly meme hosted by @bionicbookworm
This week’s topic is authors I NEED to read. This is a compilation of authors that I have recently discovered and authors that have been in my TBR forever. I will be featuring the works I am most excited to read by said author.
Libba Bray
I started reading Libba Bray’s The Diviners six years ago as part of my English class and never finished it. Bray has written in different genres ranging from historical fiction to contemporary. I just want to see what she’s all about and how she writes in different genres. I have heard nothing but good things about her Diviners series and I really want to read it before the last one comes out.
Malinda Lo
Lo has written retellings, fantasy, sci-fi thrillers, and psychological thrillers all including LGBT characters and themes. All of the genres she has written in are some of my favorites. This is one of those authors that I want to read all of their works. However, I am most existed for Ash (Cinderella retelling with an LGBT twist) and A Line in the Dark (deals with obsessive romance).
Samantha Shannon
The Bone Season has been in my TBR for years. Shannon is said to be a fantastic fantasy writer and in some ways underrated. I preordered the first book in her second series The Priory of the Orange Tree without having read any of her books. I get intimidated by the size of her books, but I love fantasy so I have to see how she writes it! Also, I currently heard a podcast where she was the featured guest and I just loved hearing about her process and inspiration for her books.
Madeline Miller
This is an author that I have seen all over Instagram and before that many on Tumblr raved about her Song of Achilles. I heard her on the 88cups of tea podcast and her process and story telling techniques really inspired me. Hearing Miller speak about Circe and how she developed her story was incredible and it made me want to read it even more!
S.A. Chakraborty
This is another one that I want to read because of bookstagram hype. She is said to write beautiful historical fantasy and that is something that really interests me. I got The City of Brass last year and have yet to read it. I have been intimidated by big books this year, but this one is one that I want to read before 2019 ends.
So that’s my list of authors I NEED to read. I hope to get to some of them by the end of this year.
What about you? What are some authors you really want to read?
